Ashley is a creative drama facilitator living in Cardiff with experience in devising, movement and ensemble work. Ashley has been working in schools and education establishments for nearly a decade. In this time, he has achieved a 1st Class BA HONs in Drama (Theatre & Media) at USW and gained Qualified Teacher Status after graduating with a PGCE from UWTSD in 2016.
Ashley’s ideology as a theatre maker is grounded in community, youth theatre and education, working closely with community projects for the Sherman Theatre, The Talent Shack and Tin Shed Theatre Co. Each project has produced a positive attitude to schooling, increased mental wellbeing and sustained rise in confidence.
Ashley’s approach combines his knowledge of the education framework and theatrical skills. Through learning performance, writing, design and technical elements, participants have gained skills from the core subjects such as English, Mathematics and Science. Ashley’s method encourages the understanding of all areas of theatrical skills, providing encouragement to those who are initially put off by their preconceived assumption of drama as only a performance skill. This wholesome approach provides areas where participants can flourish even if they do not consider themselves as a performer. Not everyone wants to be an actor but everyone can be creative.
